Major Maciek Grajper (left) and First Sergeant Nick Clutinger peer into a Soviet bunker looking at an old unexploded and unstable mortar rocket. Clutinger and Sergeant Tom Clark, to his right, are inspecting a recently demined field at Bagram Airfield. Major Grajper is head of the Engineer Corps Division of the Polish Task Force and in charge of demining operations at Bagram Airfield. The airfield, built in 1976, was heavily mined by the Soviets during its 10 years of occupation beginning in 1979. At a rate of a few dozen square meters per day, it will take years before the entire airfield is completely demined.
