When I first landed in Afghanistan in mid-August watermelons were everywhere. This picture was taken on my second day in the country outside Bagram Airfield. I snapped it from the window of a taxi that my colleague Doug Grindle and I hired to drive us from Camp Eggers in Kabul to BAF.
